Some shots from Sherri, there’s no way I could take a picture that captured how big those waves were!
We went hiking one day in St. Croix to this place called Creaky Dam Farm where people work for room and board. They sell their produce at local markets and it was a really cool place to see, equipped with chickens, goats, and a treehouse. Anyway, along the trek we came across these plantation ruins that were engulfed with vines and tropical flowers. While we explored, we found this guitar nestled in a small corner. Although it was filled with water and was missing strings, it still sounded pretty good!
During dawn watch one night it was pretty slow, so I brought out ma camera and shot this. I set it to bulb and left the shutter open for about a minute and this is what I got. Those sqwiggily explosion looking things next to the main mast are stars… fyi. =)
After six weeks aboard the SSV Corwith Cramer and two weeks bumming around the Carribbean with some wonderfully crazy people, I’m finally home. I don’t know how to illustrate this experience with words or with pictures for that matter. I realized over the course of our journey how much more this trip was than breathtaking sunsets and a research paper. I’ve learned so much about oceanography, how to navigate by the stars, and even more about myself. This trip taught us to be comfortable enough with other people to be a part of something bigger than yourself, and I don’t know of a way to convey that. Everyone that I’ve met on this adventure has truly touched my life, each in their own way, and I am so grateful to have met every single one of them. That being said, now that its over, I find myself looking back and missing my time there. So. I’ve decided to post one picture everyday of my time aboard the Cramer until I am out of photographs. I hope you enjoy them!
Home Sweet Home for the next 6 weeks! This is the S.S.V. Corwinth Cramer, she’s a 135ft Brigantine and will be taking all 23 of us (plus crew) from Woods Hole to Grenada, and finally St. Croix by Nov. 22nd. There’s over 40lbs of chocolate onboard already. F.y.i.
A couple of us visited Alchemy Farm on 10/10/10 350.org =) and it was crazy! Its a self sustaining community made up of 12 houses. The main home has a greenhouse attached to it! They grow fish in those large tanks and lettuce on top of them. The water is siphoned into this pool/lagoon/lake thing and then is used to water all the rest of the plants. They have lemon trees and everything inside their house, its insane!! The rest are around woods hole… lobster mac and cheese is probably the best thing I’ve ever eaten in my life. I’d say its pretty much as bangin as Chipotle.
